I thought surgery cured my IBS. Is this even possible?

I was on this board for a while late last year and the beginning of this year. Glad I found this place. My IBS (mostly D) was controlled by diet.

Then I was diagnosed with a large tumor on my ovary. Had a complete hysterectomy and everything turned out to be benign.

The D stopped. I mean it..completely stopped. Now it seems I have done a switcheroo and am suffering from constipation! I have cramps from time to time..the same cramps I would have with the D but now its with the C!

I know that IBS can be a symptom of ovarian cancer but I'm wondering if simply having any kind of ovarian tumor could cause it...and therefore the symptoms ceasing with its removal.

I'm going back on the diet to check things out but I'm wondering if this is a first or if anyone has ever heard of this before? I'm glad the D is over but the C is no fun either! I still have to be careful with what I eat.

If the D stopped after your surgery it suggests the D was caused by the tumor. Meaning you didn't have IBS but D as a result of the tumor. If your able to eat off diet with out D then this is a pointer that it wasn't IBS.

Now that your symptoms have changed you need to go back to your Doctor and get this checked out. C can be a symptom of several conditions not just IBS. You need to have this checked out before you can assume it's IBS.
