Syl, you are very knowledgeable in the science of many of the meds IBS suffers take, so I'd like to ask a question and see if you can assist.
Do you know what immodium actually does inside your bowels. I've read numerous suffers take this daily and sometimes multiple per day, what is it actually doing?

hey I really want to know about immodium..would you answere a couple questions I have? I'm ibs d but not actual diarreah and having accidents on days my stools are mushy it is harder to pass and I don't feel good..So how long does immodium take to work and is it really ibs safe? Where at wal mart do I get it?

Imodium contains loperamide. There is a fairly good description of how it works here. It describes how Imodium AD works which is the same for Imodium. Here is what the Imodium web site says. In essence, it slows contractions of the intestine allowing more water to be reabsorbed.

hi are these really good? if I wanted could I cut one tablet in half and that's all I take? I just want to try immodium to see how it works for me..I find it's cheaper on ebay I was at wal mart and it was almost $16! Far as I'm concerned Imodium is IBS safe. For me it usually works within a few minutes but sometimes I have to take another dose if I'm having a attack or I want to be extra sure I won't need the bathroom any time soon.
It may make going to the bathroom more difficult or it may firm up the stool so it's easier to pass. The only way to find out is to try it.

ok and you think if I cut a capsule in half to try it out,that would be ok? when my stools are mushy and small I was hoping half a capsule would really just help to bulk things up and maybe be easier to go.

You can half the tablet. I do it all the time. I have even taken just a small bite...maybe a quarter. I don't need much.

Do you buy your imodium at wal mart? I saw the capsuls were almost $16,although I can't remember how much was in the box,I couldn't buy it becaue I had groceries and only $50 cash to spend from my paycheck.. No, I just buy it al the local Target. I don't even remember how much it was, the bottle lasts me so long. I very seldom have to use it.

I use Immodium AD in a package, not in a bottle. I tried the chewables but thought I would vomit, so I went to the tablets.

That is why I get the pills. I can half or quarter it. I don't know about the capsules.

No, I didn't try the capsules. The chewables are nauseating and leave a terrble after taste in your mouth. I am sure the capsules are fine.

I am out the door in about 10 minutes, but I will look tonight. It is the same product, no matter how you buy it. I just didn't like the chewables. I can tell you it is a blue package with the words Immodium A-D in green and white colors.

I think Immodium is one of the finest products ever created. I have recently been having some episodes and have considered taking it again. I guess in my head I feel like if I do that, I am admitting defeat, I am trying to conquer this IBS. Like I should never have another episdoe because I have given up every single food that I enjoy, so that should be enough to end this forever. But, rather than take a whole day and feeling miserable, I should just take the Immodium.
