My husband was told he had IBS and was given a medicine but no other help. He did not find relief and finally he found this website. I've been trying to find foods that would work on his new diet and "cheese" is hard for me to find. I bought Veggie Slices and noticed that they have casein in them. One of the recipes posted used Veggie shredds which seem to have casein in it. Since it's all new we're not sure what the triggers are (other than soda). Any shopping advice would be appreciated...what we are doing seems to be working, only a two days this week were uncomfortable vs all seven.THANKS

For the most part, we don't seriously avoid casein in fake dairy products, after the initial phase, unless there is a dairy allergy present. Most fake cheeses will have casein. There are vegan ones without it but they don't taste very good. Doctors are little help with IBS and a most of the time a person has to be very proactive with their chosen treatments.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
