Hi everyone,
Just a quick update on why I haven't been posting in a while! I'm almost stable!!!!
I've been following the EFI diet with added IF, some lean protein, and not varying my food sources very much.
For the last few weeks, my belly has been agreeing with me more than ever!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!
I have not been overeating at night, therefore, I have not been feeling repurcussions the next day. I feel great!!!!!
I found some crystallized ginger that has helped for nausea. I still eat my oatmeal every morning, and I have found a soup that is all natural and vegan on amazon.com. It is Dr. McDougalls soups. It has a lot of fiber in them, but low fat. They might have a lot of IF in them, but they don't bother me, and don't even give me gas. I even think they are organic. The tortilla soup is really good and the chips in it are baked.
This is what I eat almost EVERY day:
Oatmeal with acacia fiber Chocolate Soy Milk (I can now tolerate rice AND soy milk so either one) 1/2 cup pure egg whites scrambled 1 Dr. McDougall's soup for lunch Banana 1 C grapes 1/2 C raspberries 1/2 cup cooked carrots 5oz V8 low sodium 1/2 C applesauce 2-3 pieces crystallized ginger 1 small piece of Dark Chocolate when I feel REALLY WELL. Sweet potato Squash A little chicken More oatmeal with acacia fiber
Gosh I feel great.
I hope my post will bring some encouragement to those out there that have had so many problems with getting on an even keel.
I have had problems for over 10 years now with not being stable. Just clinically diagnosed this time last year.
I love HEATHER's diet and all her advice has really helped me!!! Thank you, Heather.
Good luck to everyone!!! I'm stopping in lurking in the background from time to time, but my new work position doesn't allow me to get on here as much as I used to.
HUGS to everyone!!!!!!!! Kappy

I notice you don't eat any breads or pastas. Do you avoid wheat and/or gluten?

Kappy, John and Mary McDougall are great. He is an MD and he and his wife are vegan. I get their newsletters and have read most of his books. Those soups probably are organic, since most of his retreats serve organic, vegan food. I love what he has to say. Glad to hear you are doing so well.

No, I try to safely incorporate Wheat when I can. I do eat/drink rice products which most are gluten free anyway, but as for staying away from 100% whole wheat bread, I try to eat a little every-once-in-a-while. Usually, after supper with a good bit of SF, I make some cinnamon toast on a piece of wheat bread. I put a tsp of sugar and sprinkle fresh ground cinnamon and broil/toast it for a few minutes, but as for avoiding it completely, NO WAY!!!
I do try to get my whole grains from other sources though like the oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice, barley, rice cakes, etc. I do believe that whole grains are good for us, but hard on people with IBS.
It took me a long time, however, before I could incorporate these things.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like you discovered that wheat bothers your IBS symptoms, so you have to eat it sparingly. I am asking because I've been following the EFI diet strictly for nearly 4 weeks, and I am still having symptoms pretty much 24/7 (all though I considered one day this past week with minimal symptoms as a victory). I wonder if wheat is a trigger for me. I've been eating sourdough bread, homemade breads (from Heather's book), and spaghetti, all on a daily basis, in addition to other SF sources. Did you find that if you only ate wheat products carefully and in small quantities that you started to see a lot of improvement in your symptoms?

The wheat products are triggers if they are whole wheat/grain. The only time I saw great improvement was strictly on Heather's diet with added insoluble fiber. I need the IF to keep my bowels going. I am IBS-constipation predominant and if I only eat SF, I stop going and get stopped up!!! Adding the wheat after being stable for a while was just another way for me to add insoluble fiber safely to my diet. The wheat bread did NOT improve my symptoms or relieve any symptoms, it's just another food to incorporate in the diet.
It's like onions and garlic. I can't eat onions and garlic cooked by themselves or in large quantities, they give me awful gas with bloating. BUT if I eat a good SF based breakfast (like the oatmeal with acacia fiber and rice milk) i can eat one of the omelets that is in Heather's cook book (it's the one that is the sundried tomatoes and basil omelet)
