I take Lomotil which is working wonderfully but I heard of a med called Motofen. I looked it up and it seems like they are almost alike in the way they work. Has anyone take Motofen and Lomotil for ibs-d and if so which one worked better. I have never heard of Motofen so was just curious.

Mrae, do u take Calcium? I just read on the ibshelp.org site this lady takes three calcium pills a day to stop diareah/urgency. It's titled Linda's Calcium Info. Sorry, this post is not in ref to your question, but I don't have an option to PM you, so thought I'd get this info to you this way.

I have taken both and found that Motofen was a little stronger and helped me more as far as controlling my urgency and frequency. It was not manufactured in my area (NJ) though for some reason and I was unable to get it anymore. I got by with Lomotil and now I take Lotronex, the smallest dose and find it works well for me. I hope it's not forever but I have my mornings back and get out of the house much earlier!
If you have a lot of D and/or urgency/frequency, I'd give Motofen a try if you can get it. Sandy

Yes I have tried the calcium three times a day and it didn't help me at all. I still take calcium for other reasons but it does nothing for my urgency. I am getting by with the lomotil two a day in the morning but just found out about Motofen and thought I would check into it.

Did you try the Caltrate 600D? I started taking three of these a day, B-Lunch-D, about 10 days ago and they seem to help with the urgency. They actually started causing C, so I cut down to 2 and it seems to be balancing out. I read you don't want to mix your calcium with magnesium as it can balance C and D out and not help at all. Maybe ask the Doc if you can increase to four a day to see if that slows you down more. Not sure what limits would be on calcium intake.
