If anyone has ANY ideas please let me know

I have been on

Prilosec (2 weeks)
Prevacid 30 mg twice a day from March to May
Protonix from May to June
Back on Prevacid 30 mg twice a day from June to August and also Pepcid AC 3 times a week (3 days on 3 days off)
Recently started on Nexium 20 mg twice a day

Nothing helps!!! Prevacid helped for the first month or so but then it came right back. Nexium helped for a couple weeks but it came right back.

My biggest symptom is burning pain in my throat right under the voice box area. I also burp up a lot after eating (and if I ate too much I would actually burp up a good amount of food-- thus I have been sure not to overeat).

I have been doing EVERYTHING-- not eating any of the bad foods, cut out coffee completely, etc. I also raise the head of my bed with a huge box at night.

I had an esophagram which only showed mild reflux but I am telling you this is extreme pain! I am the type of person who can take a lot of pain but this is unbearable. Mostly because it is every single day (in addition to my IBS symptoms) and it really distracts me from everything I'm trying to do!

How does everyone deal with having these situations and wanting to maintain your relationships?! All I want to do is sit at home alone because I can't imagine having a good time with all this going on! All my friends want to go out to nice restaurants and bars and parties-- seeing that food and drinks are basically my enemy- this makes it very difficult!

Thank you for any help you might be able to provide

I have the same problem! All the meds I've taken have taken the edge off the heartburn/reflux, then not only did the symptoms come back, but they are worse than ever. I went off all meds, and it feels about the same, but at least I'm not super medicated.

The only thing that has provided some relief is drinking chamomile tea. Sometimes I mix in like 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, which is an antacid, and that can help relieve symptoms temporarily.

Also, Heather said this about frequent heartburn:
"In naturopathic medicine, heartburn is often thought to be caused by low stomach acid which causes the undigested food to sit in the stomach too long and create pressure. It can also contribute to inadequately digested protein in the stomach. This can disrupt the digestive process downstream as well. If you followed the tips I listed above and still experienced heartburn, you might want to follow up with a provider to test your stomach acid levels. "

I am trying to find a naturopathic doctor, because the ones I see through my HMO have no idea how to help me. Might be worth checking into.

So then is Nexium bad for IBS and also could make reflux worse since it decreases the HCL which would lead to decreased protein digestion and then increased pressure?
