Hi Everyone- I know that that Immodium question has been asked a million times, but I was wondering if everyone who takes it could give me an idea of how much/how often?

I recently went to my GI in tears and we have set up a new plan which involves an increase in my Bentyl and Immodium "as needed." So, I know I take it "as needed" but question whether or not I should take more or at least, a consistent dose for preventative measure.

Ex: 1/2 a dose each day plus my bentyl

Also, any Cymbalta uses out there? Going to my GP on Monday re: Cymbalta or Paxil. Though leaning towards Cymbalta after reading another IBS site.

Thanks!

I can take 1 to 2 immodium daily for preventive measures without it constipating me. If I were you I would try a small dose like 1/2 a pill every day and see if that it to much or not enough and go from there. I haven't used immodium in awhile cause I switched to lomotil 2pills once in the morning and I am good all day. The other meds you mentioned I have no idea about. I take Librium for my anxiety.

If your not already I would advise starting the Eating For IBS diet. This has helped me way more than any dosage of Imodium.

Believe me after 26 years of this illness, I have tried EVERYTHING...every diet (EFI and SCD two off the top of my head), every therapy, everything. That is why I am crying at my GI office. I normally don't cry in front of my doctors. I"m glad this diet works for so many, but every act of eating makes me have D. Every act. It's extremely depressing, hence, my desperation.

I agree. I do use Immodium on occasion and it works like a charm. Diet is not the be all end all for everyone, but it does help. I say use whatever works and if Immodium allows you to leave the house, whereas diet does not, then use the Immodium.

Well remember that there is no cure for IBS, not even the EFI diet. It does not cure IBS in anyone but is the best help we can get. We all just want to be our best and most would do whatever it takes to get there. The diet works for everyone but the degree certainly varies! and the benefit can be very small for some people. Still don't confuse no cure with no help.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
