Ive read on here that antibiotics can trigger ibs.....i havent been on antibiotics in years.....this past week i developed conjunctivitis and needed antibiotic eye drops...vigamox.......the day after usage ive developed bad diarhea, cramping and nausea....this is now going on day 3........can the small amount of antibiotics in eye drops trigger this?
thanks syl....just curious....how do you know this about antibiotic eye drops......also, im assuming the dosage is much lower than pills and bypasses the gut......lastly, im sure if i told my opthamologist this he would think i was nuts........
Oral antibiotics enter the gut where they can be absorbed into the blood stream. They may kill some good as well as bad gut bacteria. Eye antibiotics don't enter the gut they remain within the eye except perhaps for a tiny amount that may be absorbed into blood stream.

But, you still need to take them to clear up the conjunctivitis. Did you do anything else differently, about the same time you started the eyedrops? I wouldn't think the eyedrops would be the culprit.
