For around 9 years now I have been having GI problems, but not quite what seems to be described as IBS, so I am wondering if you can tell me if you think this is it or something else. Each morning I have 3 - 5 bowel movements, increasingly loose but not watery, the last ones often 'explosive' with gas, the consistency like whipped pudding. I never have pain, just an urgent feeling of having to 'go'. Its like my bowels have to get everything out within an hour or two of getting up. I often bloat after eating. I have tried an elimination diet, but the results, while a bit better, were no where near normal. I have been tested for parasites, came back negative. The only time recently when I had normal bowel movements were when I had to take Ciprofloxacin for a month after getting prostatitis from a biopsy. During that month things were once a day and a normal consistency. After about a week of stopping the antibiotics, things returned to 'abnormal'. Does this sound like IBS to you or something else? Thank you, Jim

Have you ever had food allergy tests done? I would do that and/or elimination diets. I can't speculate anything.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Sounds like me. I call my consistency...like a cow pile. Sometimes, mud. Sure sounds like IBS to me, but go to a gastro to be sure. By the way, the 'explosion' is the gas.

It could be IBS but it would be best to see a GI doc because many other GI problems can cause the same symptoms. You definitely should tell your GI doc about your experience with Ciprofloxacin.
Good luck

Yep, you' re right about that. However, I look at life a little better when I laugh. And, you know what, my symptoms lessen too.

That's not a bad idea. I should start trying to laugh when I have symptoms, maybe the relaxation will help. I tend to go in the bathroom and bawl because I'm in so much pain!
