Do I have to consume a "buffer" sf when having chcken or fish? Can I just have a piece of chicken when I am hungry for it, alone without a potato or rice?

You might could try it. I am so worried everytime I eat anything I have a buffer. But I have eaten some chicken without rice before and it worked fine.

Hi Rebecca,
The first thing you should eat on an empty stomach should always be soluble fiber. I would make sure you have something to coat your gut before you put anything, including protein in your system. Even though chicken is not a trigger for IBS, it's always safer, and pretty easy to eat maybe a rice cake or some other source of soluble fiber first. Some are actually okay if they eat chicken on an empty stomach. If you wanted to test it out, make sure you eat a very small amount of chicken on an empty stomach and see how you feel.
I hope this helps! Erin

Will you be my personal nutritionist? You are very knowledgeable about all of this.
I ate chinese food today (chinese vegetables which is mostly broccoli). I took bean-o before and ate some white rice first. And I am not bloated like I usually am! Usually when I eat the chinese veggies, I get so gassy! I think the bean-o really helped!
Ok, so I found the Digestive Advantage in Wal-Mart for the first time. I got it. Do you think it will help me out any? I have had a bad last two weeks, but today, it's finally evening out some.
Have you tried the digestive advantage? Do you think it would work? I'm so curious, but it says it will cause gas and bloating the first couple of days. I guess you have to get adjusted to it, Lord knows I don't need anymore gas; I tend to run the dog out of the room! lol

There has only been one small clinical study (44 patients) on the effectiveness of Bacillus coagulans in Digestive Advantage and IBS. It reported improvements from baseline in abdominal pain and bloating. It continues on to say larger, extended trials are needed to verify these results.

Thanks Syl! I hope it works for me. I just hope there are no long term effects that will have any permanent effects.

I have never seen a report of probiotics having a long term permanent effect on IBS. Generally speaking, the effects only last as long as you take the probiotic.
Good luck and tell us how it goes.

How's the digestive advantage working for you so far? Who else can eat broccoli?

So far, so good on the digestive advantage. Last night I ate a whole can of mixed fruit in light syrup! That was bad. Should not have done that! Anyway, this morning I was a little bloated with a little pain, but I've been eating SF today, and feel, well, ok. I'm definitely not good, just ok. Saturday I was in pain!! So much pain, with a big gut a very big gut!!! the Fiance and I had a dinner party Friday night, and I ate a few fried jalapenos and a glass of wine and the combo did not go over well! I should have known better. And he kept telling me I would feel bad, and I did.
I can't see that much of a difference with the Digestive Advantage, maybe once I get back on track, I will!
