I am IBS-C but my constipation has worsened over time. I can't remember the last time I had a clean BM. I'm taking the acacia fiber and have gradually increased up to 2 tablespoons, 1 teaspoon. I was on the Align but am not off it. My doctor said I can take Miralax and I took a dose yesterday and today. However, I still haven't had a BM. It feels like there's a tornado swirling around inside my stomach. What should I do? I'm concerned.

Miralax definitely works. You do, however, need to give it another day. Are you taking it everyday? I take it everyday about an hour before breakfast. You need to take it on an empty stomach. Has he tried cleaning you out? You could be impacted. I know this is gross, but I was impacted and had to give myself six enemas one night and drink some mag-citrate. I pretty much cleaned myself out, but not completely. The next day I was in the hospital from pain. An old doctor in town suggested this as a remedy:

Mix caster oil and baking soda then pour a little bit of orange juice on top and drink it while it's foaming. It may be a little stimulant, but it works! I mean works!!!!!! It doesn't taste too good, but you will be cleaned out. Then you can start on a daily regimen of the miralax. Talk to your doctor first of course!

I hope that helps

Thanks, Kappy. The bottle says not to take Miralax for more than two weeks. Do you really take it every day? Do you also take acacia fiber? I may be impacted, but I had a CT scan about a month ago and it said that stool in my colon was moderate.

I've taken it for two days and will try again today.

I do take it everyday. I have now for two years. If your DR. says its ok to take everyday, I would trust him/her. I do take the acacia fiber. I take anywhere from 3-5T/day. I also get at least 20-30 grams of fiber from food as well. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies. When I have my IBS under control for a few days, I eat berries with breakfast, grapes with a snack, green veggies and salads with other meals, for example. However, I make sure to have a SF base with my meal. If I eat salad, I make sure to eat some bread first, or when I eat roasted veggie and penne pasta, for example, I eat some pasta first then start on the veggies, and then eat more pasta. People with C need the extra IF to keep us regular. The berries, greens, and other fruits supply this IF. If we only ate the SF everyday with no IF, it would be very difficult to stay regular. Does that make sense? People with D do not need the fiber amounts that we need! I think my average fiber intake is anywhere from 35-50grams/day. Oh, and you can start working in some whole grain wheat, SOMETIMES. I eat more whole grain rice, barley, oats, etc., than I do wheat. The wheat can be very difficult to digest even for people with C.

Hi Kappy,
You seem to be a good source of info about the Miralax. I can go but don't ever feel totally empty and end up go little bits all day. Doc started me on Miralax a week ago. Didn't feel any different on the 17g dose. Tried uping the dose today and have made about 6 trips to the bathroom and still don't feel done. Doc said it would eventually get to going once a day. Is the whole dosage thing just trial and error?
Thanks!

Oh you poor thing! This is a rough mixture to resort too! I would say about 3T caster oil and about 1T baking soda. I think that should do it. Then pour on the O.J. and drink while it's foaming. It is an awful concoction, but it works!

I'm sorry I'm so late replying to this. I just saw it! The full dosage usually starts to work after a few days. You really have to let it get into your system. On bad days, I will take a double dose, but it's like you said, you go to the bathroom about 5-10 times that day and never feel empty!

You really need to stick to the one dose/day unless your DR. tells you otherwise, or if it is a really bad day!
