Hi there,
Since there is no cure for IBS and only subsidance of IBS symptoms by using diet, supplements, and lifestyle stress relief, the term "Stabilize" is used. When you are stable this means that you no longer experience IBS symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, gas/bloating, and/or pain/spasms/cramps. You are symptom free and in remission. However, be careful, because IBS symptoms can creep up again if you are not sticking to eating correctly and maintaining your stress levels.
Go ahead and print up the IBS Patient Handout by clicking on this link. http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/cheatsheet.asp. This gives a list of soluble/insoluble fiber foods and trigger foods to stay away from.
I hope this helps!

IBS is not curable. By following the EFI guidelines, reducing stress and using a variety of other techniques such as probiotics and hypnotherapy you can minimize the symptoms. Generally speaking stabilize means you can carry on with daily living without worry too much about IBS symptoms. However, it likely does not mean all IBS symptoms will be disappear. If you search the board you will find a number of posting on the meaning of stabilize such this message .
Good luck
