I was just wondering how many people take immodium on a regular basis. I have heard it is not good to take it that long and then I hear it is completely safe to take daily. I have been taking colestipol but only for a few days now and right now it seems like immodium is the only thing that works for me. I know if I take it I dont have issues. I try not to take it daily but some weeks I need to. Most of the time I can take one and I am fine if I am going out of town I take 2 and all is good. I feel like if I just take immodium every day I would be fine. I have just been trying to find something other than that to work but if its safe then why bother. Any suggestions about this? ---------------------------------------------- IBS-D

I started taking immodium almost 10 years ago. When my IBS first started, it was only emotional-- ie before job interviews and situations of high stress. Within a year I was taking two tablets every few days and then a couple years after that I had to go up to four tablets every other day. Within about 7 years my body starting to get a high tolerance for it (I think as I am not a doctor!). Last August I had a very, very, stressful time in my life and no matter what I tried nothing worked not even immodium no matter how much I took.
Personally I think immodium is okay for occasional relief I do not think it should be taken for long periods. We don't really know the side effects of this stuff in our future and you do not want your body to build up a tolerance. My doctor told me last year that immodium can be taken for long periods of time if you can find the right dosage however, I think following the diet and taking fiber is the best option. Granted you will need to cut certain things out of your diet that you really like but, I would take a diet over the poops any day! On a side note I would do almost anything for a juicy steak (except deal with the cramps, bloating and the D).
I have been much better since following the diet and using fiber. I do miss certain things but I feel it is worth it for me. A lot of people who are staring out think that the food choices are small and you can't eat anything but that is really not true. You can adapt almost any recipe to the diet and I absolutely love the turkey chilli-- minus A LOT of the spicy! and it is so easy to make.
Anyway! What I am really trying to say is that immodium should only be taken from time to time when it is an emergency. First look at your diet and stress.

I agree with you and try to only take when necessary and in situations where I know I am going to have problems. I have tried Heathers fiber but dont see much results but maybe I just need to try a different fiber supplement for me. Thank you so much for your reply.
