I've been using clover honey to sweeten my chamomile tea. My tummy has been hurting and I'm wondering if honey could be the irritant. If honey's not good for you, any good ideas on how to sweeten tea? I know artifical sweeteners aren't good. Thanks!
Honey is high in excess fructose. It contains almost as much excess fructose as high fructose corn syrup. High excess fructose foods are problematic for some IBSers causing gas, bloating and C or D. White and brown sugar have no more calories than honey and are IBS safe.

I noticed that white sugar in my tea irritates me as well. I've read the posts about pure stevia. I may try that as an option. Also, is there such thing as honey made with lower amounts of fructose. Thanks!
Unfortunately, it is the bees that determine how much fructose there is in honey White sugar is not known to be an irritant. Is it possible that chamomile tea is bothering you? You might try drink some without any sweetener and see if it is the problem.

I used to put honey in my oatmeal and felt minimal bloating. I switched to brown sugar and have absolutely no problems. I also noticed that chamomile tea was bothering me so I now only drink fennel tea. Hope this helps.
