I'm IBS-D and use quite a bit of Imodium to keep myself feeling better. I recently moved from the US to the UK, and am having trouble finding the sort of large, "value-size" boxes of Imodium tablets I used to buy in the US over-the-counter. I see Imodium in Boots and supermarkets, but only small boxes.
I'm a little puzzled -- I'm sure there must be people on this side of the pond with IBS who use Imodium. Do you just buy lots of little boxes? Am I at the wrong kinds of stores? Or do you get prescriptions from a doctor for larger quantities?

Hi, I'm from the UK and I wish I could help you with this but actually I've wondered the same thing myself, and I don't know the answer. Yep, I just buy the little own-brand boxes from Boots - and then bring them back here to Germany where as far as I can tell you can only get the genuine immodium brand, and it's so expensive! Yes so I hope someone else is able to give us a tip on this one...

To answer my own question--I ended up registering with an NHS doctor and meeting with a nurse practitioner for a new-patient appointment.
I asked her about it, and she said the over-the-counter Imodium is for short courses of treatment, and for ongoing use like mine, she would give me a prescription.
So, now I have a prescription.
