Julie....try drinking prune juice everyday.Just a shot glass worth. My daughter has a problem with C and that is what we give her.
Avoid oats and bran.
Avoid rice for now and soy.
Do not use dairy right now.
Eat your cereal dry.

The way I understand C is that you need more IF than those of us with D.You need to keep a good soluable base and make sure you add more IF than we would. Drink lots of water. It's easier to sip at room temp than cold.
You really need to make a plan and stick with it.
For us with D we see results almost right away for you , it will be probably more like a few weeks. You have to STOP straying and stick to th eplan or you will never find relief.
Are you sure you actually have IBS? like I said my daughter is prone to C but prune juice helps her but she is not IBS.

Hope that helps.

Is tuna bad for IBS? I hadn't heard that. I eat tuna about once a week, sometimes twice, if I haven't had any other fish. Can't eat too much, because of the mercury. I haven't noticed that tuna bothers me more than anything else.

I have IBS-C, and I would agree, you *must* get your insoluble fiber intake every day, as well. Veggies work best for me, and actually, fresh cherries, when they're in season. I know that's weird, 'cuz a lot of ppl can't do cherries. Everyone has the own 'magic' foods. I always have fresh pears in the fridge.

I tend to stay way from prunes and juices, due to the sugar. It's just so concentrated in dried fruits and juices, and I've been pre-diabetic in the past (but not now! yaaaay). But, it can't hurt to try the prune juice, if you don't have sugar problems... I know some ppl just swear by it, and I happen to think it's darn tasty, too.

Can't recall where I read it, but I read that chicken is somewhat of a natural stool softener. Not sure if that helps you any, not with tuna, anyway, lol, but if tuna IS problematic, then maybe switch to chicken for awhile. There are good canned white-meat chicken items out there that you can fix just like tuna... we get ours at Costco or Sam's Club.

IBS-C is awful. I've struggled with it for the last two years, along with hems and anal fissures. Ouch, like you wouldn't believe. What's really been helping me lately are taking two fish oil caps/day, and just now, I've added a flax oil cap, as well. But with tuna, that fish oil is already in there. Maybe you just need more of those Omega-3's.

best of luck
