Hey everyone, I hope the holiday season is bringing hope and good health to everyone. I just wanted to let you all know about a new food I found, fish sticks!
The product is called Ian's Fish Sticks, they also make Chicken Nuggets. All you have to do is bake them for about 15-20 minutes, they are coated in a corn based breading, and the wonderful thing is, there is no wheat, milk, eggs, casien, gluten or other normally allergy problem foods in them. They are targeted towards kids, but I found them to be really delicious and a nice change from the norm.
Take care everyone and best wishes for 2009!

How much fat is in them? Are they fried? I would def welcome a new addition to this limited diet, but most premade stuff is either fried or very high in fat.

Hi Pennie, I hope these would work for you too! Here's the facts on the fish sticks:
-in 4 or 5 sticks there are 190 calories, only 50 being fat. -also, they are cooked, not fried, in canola oil
If you would like to try the wheat, gluten, egg, dairy, etc free chicken nuggets the facts are:
-in 5 nuggets there are 220 calories, with 90 being fat -these are also cooked, not fried, in canola oil
I hope that you and others are able to enjoy these as much as I do, good luck!

Aly, is this a bad or good thing?
I guess I am not up to date on grams of fat thing. All I know is I don't have any problem with them, and with my tiny body I need calories and good fat to keep me going.

Remember the percentage of fat is the important thing. If you eat only 1 gram of fat but only eat 20 calories it is too high! The fat grams are useless without an idea of calorie count. So for these: 50 out of 190 calories is just over 25% and ok, even eaten alone. 90 out of 220 calories is over 40% and is too high (unless low fat side dishes are eaten with it to up the cal count and reduce the percentage). Luckily the calories from fat is on most nutrition labels now up at the top so you don't have to figure out the amount of fat calories (it is 9 cals per gram of fat). And you just divide the fat cals into the total cals for the percentage.

thanks for the info. I thought it was the percentage, but couldn't remember. Once you've been doing the diet long enough, you can just kind of figure it out without doing the math, ya know? Thanks:)

Quoting Little Minnie, 12/30/08: "Remember the percentage of fat is the important thing... So for these: 50 out of 190 calories is just over 25% and ok, even eaten alone. [re: fish sticks] 90 out of 220 calories is over 40% and is too high (unless low fat side dishes are eaten with it to up the cal count and reduce the percentage)." [[chicken nuggets]
Fish sticks look okay, even if they're the only food I eat at any one meal/snack. I'd want bread or potatoes with them, myself.
But, chicken nuggets would only be okay if I eat enough soluble fiber in accompanying foods to level out the fat percentage to an acceptable 24-25%. I need to eat enough potatoes, french bread, rice, etc. to increase the total non-fat calories in the meal which would decrease the fat percentage. That's the concept anyway, I think.
Hope this helps - Happy New Year!

The times that I have eaten the fish sticks and chicken nuggets, I have had a baked potato and a piece of my special gluten free bread. I also cook peas or broccoli and carrots to have as well.
I really hope that you all will enjoy them as much as I did.

I found a chicken nugget kids meal that is made by the same people. The kids meal has nuggets, mashed potatoes, corn, & chocolate cake. It is dairy free, egg free, etc... They meet the fat criteria. I haven't tried it yet, but will let you know what I think.
