I have three questions for anyone with IBS-D who's stable:

1) Do you take a fiber supplement, and if so, which one and how much?

2) If you take a supplement, do you also strictly follow the IBS diet?

3) If you don't take a supplement, do you strictly follow the IBS diet?

Thanks!

1 - no
2 - not applicable because of 1
3 - fairly strictly with modifications. The EFI diet as it stands has high fructose fruits in it which I cannot eat.

I do take a supplement - the acacia fiber sold on this site. I find that fiber helps me more than anything else to have formed stools. I take 2.5 teaspoons twice a day (mixed in water with breakfast and dinner). I gradually increased and did have some gas initially, but it resolved itself as my system got used to the fiber. I used to take Fibercon tablets, which also worked well, but it is hard to take as much fiber with the tablets - I would have to take too many pills in one day! I like the acacia the best of anything so far.
I do follow the EFI diet fairly closely, though not perfectly Once you start, you'll find that there are some "cheats" you can get away with. It has given me a really good base so that if i find myself in a tough situation (at a restaurant or friend's house) even if I eat a few things off the diet i'm usually ok.

Hope this is helpful!
