Anybody else find oatmeal causes pain? I've had a lot of cramping today. I had oatmeal for breakfast. Today is one of those frustrating days where I just want to pull my hair out. What do you normally eat for breakfast? I'm IBS-A, mainly C though. Thanks!

Regular oatmeal - that is oatmeal that needs to be cooked for 15-20 minutes - is about 1/2 and 1/2 IF and SF. Some people can handle it without any problems other have difficulty. I have it every morning for breakfast.

Some of the quick oatmeals have other ingredients which can cause problems.

What type of oatmeal did you have? What did you have with your oatmeal?

I had regular oatmeal with sugar. Although I did not cook it over the stove. I put very hot water in it and let it sit for a few minutes. So maybe not all of it was fully cooked. I usually eat grits (just with salt/pepper) for breakfast, but went with oatmeal today. I may go back to the grits.

My regular oatmeal says to stir oats into boiling salted water and cook for 10-20 minutes. If you use a microwave it says to heat uncovered on high power for 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 minutes, stir after 1 minute and let stand for a couple of minutes. I don't think just adding hot water to regular oatmeal like you do for instant oatmeal will cook it enough.

Regular oatmeal is the type of hot breakfast oats that you can buy at Tesco or Sainsbury's. Read the ingredients and instructions. If the only ingredient is oats and the instructions say to cook in boiling water for 10-20 minutes then it is likely regular oatmeal.

Check also to see if it says instant or quick cooking or 1 minute oatmeal. I've seen those key words on different packages and the instructions will say to boil for 1 min.
Do you have the instructions on the box or the packet?

Yes - rolled oats should be fine.

Oatmeal is never a trigger for me, I eat it every morning for breakfast. I put about 7tsps of Tummy Fiber in my oatmeal and mix it well. The soluble fiber counteracts any affects the IF will have. HTH!

Oatmeal bother me too. I get bloated and uncomfortable.
Chex cereal seems ok, as well as rice crispies.

Now that I'm relatively stable, I may try it again with the Acacia. Oatmeal has always been one of those things that sometimes is OK, sometimes not. I really like it, so I miss having it.
