WHat causes this?

Whenever I have a BM its always hard and lumpy in the beginning, but once that part passes it all comes out smooth. what causes this?

The first part is hard and lumpy from sitting in your rectum for too long, during which time water from the stool gets absorbed back into your body. The rest of the stool hasn't been around for as long, so there is still moisture in it, keeping it smooth and soft.

I think the ideal is for the whole BM to be pretty much uniform in consistency, but mine are often the same as yours.

Can anything be done to prevent this? Fiber doesnt work and stool softeners dont seem to agree with my system either
