i find that everything that would help a normal person go to the bathroom doesnt work for me...fiber, prune juice, laxatives....they dont work..why is this? my friend who has healthy digestion recently told me he had to take a laxative and wound up going 8 times in a 6 hr period...last time i took a laxative i just got bloated and went twice and that was it

Probably because we don't have normal systems.
Why does tylenol upset my stomach but I have no problem with advil?Docs couldn't believe that one but it's true. I'm d so i can't really answer you on what does work but someone should be able to steer you in the right direction.

dragonfly- i also can't do tylenol and have no problem with advil, unbelievable but true

as for the laxative thing, this is how I understand it. when we have trigger foods or anything difficult on the digestive system, our system tends to spasm. for IBS-d people this turns into running to the bathroom, for IBS-c it turns into not going at all. this happens to me also with coffee, for most people that makes you go to the bathroom if anything- for me, if I have coffee I will not go for days. This is just my understanding of it, I could be wrong though
