I've been following a strict IBS diet incorporating everything that has been said in the book " IBS THE FIRST YEAR " . I haven't had diarrhea for 1 week , its been the happiest week for as long as I can remember until today. It started with major cramps, I just don't understand, I had the exact same foods that I ate yesterday. Now after I had several trips to the washroom, i'm left with major pain on my right side. The best way to explain it is that it feels like a "bruise" type pain. I really don't understand what could have triggered this after a week of being well.

Well, don't think you're alone! This happens to alot of folks and happened to me too - yes, very frustrating! I've been "mostly" on the diet for about two months now. My first week of cutting out red meat, taking SF supplements, cranking up SF foods, cutting out coffee, cutting out dairy, etc. --- was actually awesome - felt better than I have in as long as I could remember. Somewhere around week two, gas and bloating and occasional cramping started. D started creeping back in too. On a whim I decided to switch from Acacia to Citrucel - and I started to feel better. Most gas/cramping/bloating ceased. Going a day at a time, but definitely feeling better than I was two months ago....have actually lost 16 pounds, and feel much more energetic than I used to....
Also....if you're IBS-D like me, your discomfort may be caused by your colon actually filling up with good SF after such a prolonged period of mostly empty thru frequent elimination. I haven't read anything to confirm it, but I believe that actually happens....
