Why are nondairy icecreams so high in fat?

And are they any in particular that you recommend? I have been feeling really good, and I am dying for ice cream, but the nondairy ice creams that I have found at 12% fat or higher. That just seems like such a high amount of fat for a snack.
I tried one of the decadant soy (chocolate w/ peanut butter), and it just was awful, maybe it was the flavor? Would homemade "ice creams" be lower in fat?

I don't know why the fat is high and I haven't found that many flavors of non dairy ice cream that I like. However, I do enjoy a non-dairy ice cream sandwich. I used to get the Lil Dreamers ice cream sandwiches but I discovered that So Delicious has a "mini" size ice cream sandwich that I like even better. The "mini" has only 100 calories so it helps with portion control.

I think I will have to try the sandwiches, maybe that is where I went wrong trying the ice cream plain. And the fat content in the sandwiches seems more reasonable too.
Thanks!

I eat the Chocolate Velvet all the time and it is not high in fat - it's just chocolate "ice cream" not nuts, or brownies, or peanut butter, I think those extras really pile on the fat. So Delicious

I'm not too keen on the soy ice cream either - I prefer the sandwiches too - the Tuffutti ones - or I make my own with Turtle Mountain soy ice cream and homemade chocolate chip cookies - using only a 1/2 cup of ice cream controls portion size too. I also found dairy free orange sorbet which I love!
