So I was complaining about my most recent attack to my mom and she mentioned that my aunt whom had crohns disease used to eat two coconut macaroons everyday to help with her "d". She said that they had to be Archway brand. My aunt had severe crohns, so my mom said she tried anything she could try and the macaroons seemed to help. So I researched them online and apparently they are known to help diarrhea in people with Crohns. So I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of this or tried them??? I know IBS and Crohns are different, but I was just wondering if it helps with diarrhea in general then maybe they could help us with IBS-D too?? I just found it interesting.

This is so funny, because my grandmother was just saying the exact same thing on Saturday and I thought she was crazy! It seems to me that coconut would be IF and therefore worsen diarrhea, but maybe there's some compound in the coconut that helps?!?

Interesting.....just was speaking to my PT the other day and she said her husband has Chrons and if he'd just eat coconut he'd be fine...but he hates coconut. When she can get him to eat it, she buys the whole coconut and breaks it open.

My dad (who has a dirty old man's sense of humor!) has a theory that you just wad the macaroon up like a cork and stuff it in, and that's how it helps prevent diarrhea!!

I'm sure you can purchase macaroons - don't know for sure if Archway is sold in Canada. We buy Jennie's Coconut Macaroons. They come in a yellow tin and the only ingredients are coconut, honey, and egg whites. I think there is a chocolate version as well with cocoa powder.

I bought my grandmother a tin because she was lamenting the lack of macaroons from her childhood in the store - this is what prompted the whole diarrhea conversation in the first place!

I saw that Archway coconut macaroons have HFCS in them. I still havent figured out if that is a trigger for me. I eat some white bread that has it in it and I am fine. But its like the second ingredient in the cookies. I'm still willing to give them a shot though!!

I have read that Jenny's Macaroons are good. But I don't think they're available in my area. So I just make them from scratch.
