Hi
I've been away from the boards for a long time now & just dealing with my IBS as a daily part of my life but I think I'm ready to go back on the diet to see if it helps. I'm tired of always feeling gassy & bloated.
Anyway I was wondering if grits are O.K to eat. I've got the instant kind here at my office & I'm sooo hungry. The only problem is that my stomach is a mess this morning...from what i don't know. I've been drinking fennel tea & it's helping but I've still got spsams. Any thoughts on the grits?

thanks
Meryl

Here's an old post I did on them: web page

Bottom line is they stil contain some bran so I wouldn't consider them SF. You can do a Search, though, and see what other people have said. Interestingly, this seems to have come up a number of times.

Do you think you could get hold of some pretzels? They're always safe for me and an easy thing to eat at work.

HTH.

I read the posts pertaining to grits. Does it matter which brand of grits you eat? I have been eating the Quaker Instant Grits for breakfast for the past month or two. My stomach is usually upset in the morning already (I tend to have IBS-D in the morning), so when I saw this post I immediatly became concerned. I checked the ingredients on the package, but there was no mention of bran. Are there any other ingredients I need to look for that are technically "bran"? And are corn and popcorn big no-no's too? As always, thanks for any help. I was glad to see this question raised and answered.

Quaker Instant Grits are made from white hominy grits. These are hulled white corn kernels that have been stripped of their bran and germ. Unlike other types of non-instant corn grits it should be low in IF and high in SF or in the worst case like oatmeal it might contain equal amounts of both.
