I've been planning a few camping trips for this summer.. and with that comes buying camping gear.. i've noticed that a lot of places sell camping food.. where you just add water and heat it.. but many of them have dairy and or wheat.. does anyone know of dairy and wheat free camping food? or good recipes?

Pud - I do a lot of camping. I never take prepared foods. I prepare everything myself that way I know exactly what I am eating.
Will your car be near by when you are camping? If yes, buy a small electric cooler that runs off the car battery. If you freeze things before you go you can kept them cool enough in the cooler that you don't have to eat them for 2-3 days. I can pack enough perishables in a cooler to prepare 4-5 days of meals for two people. Using a small two burner Coleman camp stove I can prepare most of the meals I normally eat at home but in the luxury of the camp ground and beauty of the wilderness
However, if you are canoeing or hiking you have use a different approach.

I just returned from backpacking and camp several times a year. I am beginning a book on backcountry cooking. If you want some pointers on camping with IBS and eating gourmet while camping just email me. Even if you don't have a dehydrator there are many options that don't require a cooler. I doubt you can find RTE meals that are safe. I do know a place where you can buy safe dehydrated soups that are really good. I met the lady at a fair but she sells online too and uses no icky stuff like MSG.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
