Can anyone help?

I have had IBS for around 10 yrs and have just discovered this wonderful site. I am trying to loose weight for my wedding in Oct 2008! Over 5 weeks ago I started eating salads everyday for my lunch, but this really did not agree with me. After having read these pages have started eating boiled rice with peppers, tomatoes, sometimes tuna and chicken, which I seem to be handling better. But what I would like help with, can anyone suggest any other healthy things I can eat to try and loose weight? I have come to the conclusion that I just cannot tollarate lettuce, so would desperately like to try something else in a bid to try and loose weight.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding ) Definitely good motivation to lose weight. Personally I'd forget about the salads, it will only bother your stomach and most dressings end up making the calorie difference not even worth it.

One thing I would definitely do is eat mini meals throughout the day, this keeps the metabolism going AND is good for the IBS.

So many foods that are good for IBS are also good for a diet. I think oatmeal is the number 1 for me personally because its very low in fat and calories and keeps you full. I have plain oatmeal (no sugar or anything like that) with apple every morning for breakfast and it keeps me full for about 3 1/2 hours until a mid morning snack. Some people can't tolerate oatmeal though so thats going to be a personal thing. I also recommend cooked carrots for a snack, apple cinnamon rice cakes (the small ones), cheerios, chex, all of those things make great snacks throughout the day. I have soy yogurt for lunch every day which is good for weight except it does have a bit of sugar which I'm sure is not the best.

I noticed you posted on the fitness board too- if you are not into a fitness program already I would recommend working out 3 or 4 days a week for at least 30 minutes. It would be great if you could get some weights in there too.

Good luck!
