Hi me again emmasmom I have a question I need some help on adding more "if" into my diet but with out making me sick since I have been without it so long, If I don't now I never will. Ok so I was going to do a smoothie the only things I put into my smoothie are can peaches and strawberries I can't do bananas. My question is do I just leave the strawberries out and add the blueberries in or do I do both? My next question is if i have this for lunch or a snack is it ok to have my safe "if" at super witch is green beans. I don't have that my if in my diet at all right now, just green beans and strawberrys, tomatoes and a few pieces of roamin lettuce here and there on sandwitches. I also have some multigrain ceral for breakfeast and some brown rice at some meals to. I really want to start adding in food again but don't want to get sick trying. How much "if" in 1 day is ok? I know they say wait a week and see if you are ok with that can I try something else then and wait another week right so when do I go back to the old one and and after i up it do i wait a week again? You have really helped me in the past and I thank you for that! I hope you don't mind helping me again. Also could you give me some tips on safe fruit. I can't do bananas, applesauce or can pears. Thank you so much for your help.

I'll help as much as I can. If your goal is to add more IF overall, then don't stop eating the IF you're eating now - just put more IF into your diet, too. So if you're eating peaches and strawberries in your smoothie now and green beans at dinner, then you should put the blueberries in your smoothie in addition to what's already there. Don't take the strawberries out - put the blueberries in, too, so the total amount of IF goes up. And I'd start small. Add in maybe even just 5 blueberries. If that goes okay for a couple of days, add in 5 more for a total of 10. And so on.
I think when people talk about trying something for a week, they may be talking more about food allergies and sensitivities. Then you want to try only one new thing for a week because you want to make sure you're not allergic to it. I think for just adding in IF that's not so much an issue. So once you've gotten used to the blueberries, try adding maybe another vegetable at dinner. Still eat your green beans like you do now, but try maybe adding a few green peas, too. Again, I'd go slow - even if it's just 5 peas. I know this sounds silly but keep at it and eventually you'll be eating a reasonable amount of IF.
I don't think there's a set amount of IF that's safe in one day. I think it's more making sure you have enough SF to cushion however much IF you're going to eat. If you increase your IF slowly you'll have a better chance of judging that as you go up on IF.
I'm not sure what to say about relatively safe fruits. I can eat all kinds but it's taken me a long time to get to that point. If I were going to introduce a new fruit I think I'd try a melon of some kind, probably watermelon - you take the peel off and there really isn't a lot to flesh of the melon. Again, I'd try just a little, maybe even one bite to start. Or try a slice of peeled apple and see how that goes.
I hope this helps. If I haven't been clear, let me know.

Hi thank you so much for the advice it is exactley what I was needed and looking for. So wed night i had a teaspoon of baby food peas mix in my mashed poatoes. So far so good. Now my question is can I try a new if say like cream corn or blueberries? and when do I go back to the peas and try them again? I just know that I can't give up or I will never do this. I have been with out if for so long I am scared now of adding back put the longer I go I know the worse it will be and besides that I miss food so much I would like to do beans but I don't think my bodys ready for them yet. Thanks so much for your help and any more advice would be wonderful thanks again xxxxx to you! emmasmom ibs-c GAS,Lactose interolant

I think you can try a little new IF every day. Just keep the amounts small as you're starting out. And I'd say try the peas again the next time you have mashed potatoes.
I like the way you're thinking about this and I think it's the way to keep going - figuring out how to mix some IF into your SF like your peas in your mashed potatoes. So keep thinking like that. If you're having a smoothie, throw in a few blueberries. If you're having rice, maybe try throwing in a few raisins or just a very few almonds. And so on.
As for beans I agree they can be tough. If you're talking about green beans, you could try the baby food in mashed potatoes thing again. If you're talking about something like kidney beans, you could consider eating just a very few mixed into some rice.
I'm glad this seems to be working for you. I know how scary it can be - hang in there.
HTH. Take care.

Sand Hi I just wanted to say thanks again for the help! I tried the blue berries in the smoothie and now I am up to 5! I tried the peas and so far so good as long as there mashed. I aslo have tried cream corn I just mash it even more in the food processer. so far so good I plan on just sticking with these for a while. I am so excited to get old food back into me any way I can. I have printed out all the advice you have given me and keep it close by and my huband refers to it to. One more question if you don't mind if I have a smothie for snack or breakfeast is it ok tio have "if" with my super or is that to much? I know this is a long long road but I can't give up now thanks again! xxx emmasmom ibs-c

I think it's fine to have IF with your breakfast or snack smoothie and then have IF again with supper. You're only doing a little each time and it's well processed so I think that's a great way to go up to a little more IF without introducing a whole new food yet.
I'm glad this is going so well for you. It is a long, long road but hang in there.
HTH. Take care.

Ok I thought I was going down the right road but know I don't know.... On tuesday I had 4 bms that day and felt ok (empty( but ok. Today I had 3 and I feel horriable my stomach just won't stomach and its feel like it full of gas or something. I added more blue berries this week and add more peas to super last night! I also have been eating animal cookies but they due contain hfs,and some rice cheese. I had half of some rice yougurt yesterday(this is so good). Is this maybe normal til my body does get use to new "if" Should I stick with what I am doing or just take 1 new if i week at a time? This is hard and confussing but I can't give up. Please help. Thanks again!

It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. I really don't know what to say at this point. It doesn't seem like what you're eating should be causing such severe problems. You can try eating just one new IF each week and see if that helps.
Do you consider yourself primarily IBS-C, D, or A?

I was surprised that you're having D after so little IF. The easy answer is that it has nothing to do with what you're eating - you've picked up a bug. Not very helpful and unlikely since you had trouble on Tuesday than not again until Friday.
The happiest answer is that, yes, the IF is making things move and the D you're getting is because the C is resolving in a rush so to speak. If that's the case things should smooth out once your body gets used to the IF you're putting in it. I'm not as sure about this answer as I'd like to be and I feel bad about that because it means telling you to keep doing what you're doing knowing it might bring on more of the D-days. Unfortunately that's the only advice I have right now.
Would you feel comfortable posting everything you're eating plus your SFS for a couple of days? Maybe someone can see what might be a problem.
I'm sorry I can't be more help with this. Hang in there.
