i crave sweets/carbs and it is killing my waistline! i read that protein subdues these types of cravings. what are ibs appropriate sources of protein? if i shouldn't eat nuts, dairy, etc, how do i get enough daily protein? i must add that i am not into tofu.

Fish fillets like tilapia and cod simply seasoned with a bit of salt, dried dill weed, fresh ground pepper and cooked on a Pam sprayed grill pan are quick and easy.
Or a egg white/egg sunstitute omelette stuffed with a vegan cheese and/ or some cooked veggies is a protein source also.
Then there is always chicken breasts, shrimp, turkey ect.
Hope this helps!

There is a lot of misinformation out there about protein and fiber. It seems people want you to believe you will lose weight and never be hungry if you eat protein and fiber. It isn't true though. The truth is you should eat all types of food in proportion. Real experts recommend an equal mixture of protein, fat and carbs. Eating all protein can cause the body to shut down in fact (source Delicious Living Magazine). But eating less calories is still desired of course. Protein is not magic! In fact for me, if I get filled up on two homemade mixed white and WW flour pancakes I will be full enough to get almost through lunch. Trying to stay full on protein like eggs and turkey would never bring me through and the calories are what counts. Try to eat more veggies and less things high in calories. Use acacia as a SF base and less simple carb foods. Hope this makes sense!

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Have you tried Luna bars? They are a great protein source with 9 or 10 grams. They are very filling and like a candy bar. These really fill me up and the protein does make a difference for me.

I stay away from soy, so Luna Bars are out for me. I eat a lot of scrambled Egg Beaters and plain chicken (sometimes with some taco seasoning). I also have egg white protein powder which I occasionally use... Jay Robb and Healthy n' Fit are both good brands for the powder. They are sweetened with stevia.
