First, thanks to Heather for having such a great site. I just joined. hello everyone!
I have been suffering with these unusual pains since my second pregnancy and second c-section. I had a colonscopy, a laproscopy and was diagnosed with IBS with constipation. However the Zelnorm did not work for me, so I stopped taking them. I them began to have serious pains after using milk, fried foods, pasta. After some ultrasounds it was discovered that I had a ventral hernia and I am also Lactose Intolerant. I then had surgery to close that hernia, my whole stomach was stitched from top to bottom and I thought that my pains would go away and the doctors were wrong about the IBS. I was wrong!! The pains came back after I could distnguish the pain from the surgery from those usual pains. I started using a lot of pasta after seeing on variuos sites that it was good but I still had the pains. The I read the label and it said that the pasta was made from wheat products!!

I plan to purchase heather's book and the soluber fiber she sells, is it a good as people say?

I love Heather's Acacia powder.

I'm not sure what you're asking about pasta. It is made from wheat but unless you have a problem with wheat or gluten that should be fine. (Whole wheat is a strong IF - maybe that's what you're asking about? Most pasta is made from processed wheat so the "whole" parts are removed. Like white breads.)

So well processed wheat flour is good? I will try my best to isolate what works for me over the next 2 weeks. My family is getting a bt annoyed at my "obsession" with eating the corect thisng recently.
So when you use the Acacia powder with the normal foods, you do not get an attack?

If the list of ingredients does NOT say "whole wheat" you should be okay. Most pastas, white breads, and so on are fine.

If by normal foods you mean cheese, ice cream, steak, alcohol, and so on, then all I can say is "I wish". Following Heather's guidelines - low fat, dairy-free, high soluble fiber, a careful incorporation of insoluble fiber, and no trigger foods - is the major factor that keeps my IBS in check. Acacia is just a way to get Soluble Fiber in me without having to consume tons of SF foods.

As for tweaking what foods work, I'm in the Strict Constructionist camp when it comes to Heather's approach - it works for me as is. Other people take a different approach. But my advice is to start by following Heather's guidelines as she lays them out and see how you do. Here's an old post I did that will direct you to what you need to know to understand Heather's approach:

And here's a very useful post about the dangers of assuming trigger foods aren't really bothering you:

Thank you so much for this information. You are correct, I was selectively reading the posts, but I see it may be best to take the time to read all. You have given some really good advice in your posts. I purchased the IBS Diet Kit#2 yesterday but I will also look for hte bok you recommend "The FirstYears". Thanks again.
