I'm starting to think soy products, which I use now instead of dairy are causing me problems. I started keeping a symptom log and see a pattern. Does soy agree with you?
Also, if you don't have soy and dairy, what's the best way to get calcium from IBS friendly foods?

I don't seem to have a prblem with soy, but if you do you could look for a fortified rice or almond milk.

Yay, most of the time, but I can't just sit down and drink a glass of soy milk. I can with almond milk (blue diamond is the best brand). I do all of my cooking with soy milk instead of cow milk, the DH benefits from it too! I also take a calcium citrate supplement everyday at lunch so I can get more calcium in my diet. It doesn't bother my stomache.
Best of luck!

Soy does not agree with me. I can have small amounts of it, but any more and I get gas and migraines. Before I knew soy was a problem I tried some soy protein powder - huge migraine.
Oh, and I use almond milk all the time - on cereal, in cooking, etc.

Soy sends my IBS into overdrive. I drink and cook with Almond Milk or Rice Milk. Both are fortified with calcium. I even buy rice cheese--it doesn't taste nearly as good but it is a calcium source.

Barbara, where do you find rice cheese?

I feel better drinking rice milk than soy but occassional soy in things is fine with me and soy sauce and that sort of thing is fine. The soy milk just made me feel so full. Rice milk has as much calcium as soy milk although it does not have protein or fiber.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I live a suburb of Houston and find it at Whole Foods in Houston but strangely enough when I was visiting my mother last Christmas in the mountains of NC I found it at the local health food store!!! They only had the slices, but Whole Foods has parmesan, grated cheddar and slices.
