Pre IBS DX I was taking cinnamon capsules, a multi vitamin and a calcium supplement. When I started having stomach problems I stopped taking these things. Now that I'm relatively stable (when I stay outta McD's) I wondering if I can add them back, particularly the cinnamon capsules? Any advice appreciated!

I never stopped taking my multi-vitamin or my calcium supplements. I'm not sure about the cinnamon capsules, what are they for?

I've been reading lately that cinnamon is actually very good for you. And I want to say that I heard it is good for IBS too. I put cinnamon in my oatmeal every weekend, but I'd like to try sprinkling some on my regular cold cereal during the week too. I read somewhere that all you need is 1/4 tsp per day to get the benefits (and I can't even remember what those benefits are - lol!)

Taking 12g of Acacia per day. Relatively stable since March 2008!

It's supposed to be good for blood sugar and cholesterol. My cholesterol just went up despite the fact that I'm losing weight and doing everything right, so I would like to try the cinnamon caps again. I was just concerned that it might irritate my stomach.

I believe the polyphenolic polymers in cinnamon help reduce insulin levels. High insulin levels increase triglycerides, cholesterol, and LDL's. When insulin is lowered then cholesterol decreases. If you don't have high insulin levels then cinnamon will not help your cholesterol levels. You can read about cinnamon and insulin in this PennState newsletter.
In your previous posting I asked what your LDL and HDL level were before and after you started the diet? Do you know these values? If the change was small then the increase could simply be due to measurement error and not due to your diet. Some people cannot change their cholesterol levels very much through diet changes.

They are supposed to help lower blood sugar and possibly cholesterol.
