My doctors suspect I have IC - I am going for my cystoscopy next Friday, so I guess I will know for sure then.
I've found relief by following both the IBS and the IC diets simultaneously, however my diet is BORING.
Here is what I eat on a daily basis:
Breakfast - oatmeal with blueberries and honey
Lunch - plain or blueberry bagel, pear slices (from a can)
Snack - pretzels/graham crackers/animal crackers
Dinner - rice or pasta with chicken, zucchini and mushrooms or fish and sweet potatoes
Snack - dry cereal or baked chips
I hate to complain because I am actually beginning to feel better, but I feel as though I need more variety in my diet. I'd really like to sneak in more fruits and veggies, but the fruits that are ok for IBS (mango, bananas, applesauce) bother my bladder. And while nearly all veggies are ok for IC, obviously many of them hurt my bowels.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

A good friend of mine had IC - it was horrible but she was a VERY severe case. Her doctor said that in his 40 year career he had only seen one other case as bad as hers. She finally had her bladder removed last spring and is now on a bag. She never mentioned any foods that were bad for it - what can't you eat that is bad for IC?
-------------------- IBS-A since age 12, and fructose sensitive; with the exception of my pregnancy, have been following Heather's diet since Nov. 19, 2007.
Taking 12g of Acacia per day. Relatively stable since March 2008!

Hi, I have IC also. It took me about 6 months of pain to get diagnosed (saw 3 different urologists). After being on Elmiron for 5 months, however, I improved greatly. I took Elmiron for about 1.5 years, and now I am off of it and only taking Aloe Vera capsules (freeze dried). I have been able to add lots back into my diet, even things like the occasional tomato sauce (with Prelief).
My point is that although you need it now, you may not be stuck with such a bland diet forever. I think I have a rather mild case of IC, but was still able to see significant improvement with medication. There are other treatments available as well.
Until your doctors can diagnose you with something, I would recommend sticking to the boring diet which doesn't cause you pain or discomfort. Also, check out http://www.ic-network.com. It was a huge help for me when I was struggling with diagnosis and diet. The message boards are very helpful.
