Hi there,

I just finished posting, but had a question. I know that you need to eat soluble fiber before insoluble fiber. And that you should eat soluble fiber on an empty stomach. Does this mean an SFS? Does it mean that I can have veggies etc. at a meal if I have quinoa during the meal first? I have just started this two days ago so it continues to be a learning experience!

Thanks,
Beth

Look up Soluble Fiber Supplements in the IBS FAQ.
I personally would advise against it, although natural SF before any meal wouldn't be bad.
For instance at a salad bar I'll take a hardboiled egg, and before I eat I'll split it open, take out the yoke, and eat the white.
Doing this will pave the way for the lettuce to follow.

Hi Beth,

Depending on your own personal tolerances, yes, this is the basic idea. You should be able to have veggies if you have quinoa first. It doesn't necessarily have to be a supplement. Many of us take the supplement, but some people on the boards try to get all their SF from food.

An egg white is not SF - it is protein. SF is any starch like white bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, etc.

I did this according to Heather's Cheat Sheet (also sprinkling mushrooms on my salad).

thanks for the insight to things. this is all still so new to me and a bit overwhelming at times too.

any recommendations for how to start all of this? just jump into it?

i am really worried that if i cut out the IF i will become even more constipated and bloated as well. i am trying to have faith that all of you have been here too and that this DOES work.

is the idea that eventually i might be able to eat foods that are higher in IF without the SF?

thanks again for the help!!
