I started taking Benefiber in December and have now been on 1 teaspoon in the morning and one before dinner everyday since the first week of January. I also started the Diet at the same time.
I never used to get bloated or have horrible gas and all the gurgling until I started the Benefiber. Its endless and I even tried the fennel teas and no relief.
My D has been almost non-existing for about a month but its hard to tell if the diet alone could have done the same and that the Benefiber is just giving me the access gas and such
Should I maybe quite the Benefiber and see if the diet alone would do the trick? Lower the dose?
I really need some advice

Benefiber in Canada is made with guar gum whereas Benefiber in the US is made with wheat dextrin. I have the same problem you do with Benefiber made with guar gum. Some people can handle certain kinds of SFS but not others.
I don't take any fiber supplements. I get all of my SF from dietary sources. I would stop Benefiber and see how things go.

AH - yes - I recall they changed it - they use to use guar gum. Inulin definitely gives me problems. I wish they would use wheat dextrin in Canada.
Inulin is known to cause gas. See Heather's these comments on this web page "If you're at all prone to bloating or gas (and many folks with IBS are), please avoid both psyllium and inulin (the main ingredients in Metamucil, Konsyl, Fybogel, Fibersure, and FiberChoice), which can seriously worsen these problems in some people with IBS."

Aw crappy. That means when my Benefibre tablets that I use for travelling run out, I'll have to find another tablet-form SF!

Hmmm... I'll have to check! I do have the chewables... and I didn't realize til later that they had sucralose. But I haven't taken them since September - that was back when I was still only taking 2-3 grams of fibre per day (I am now up to 10).

I decided to go without an SFS because of the bloating, gas, etc. I use flaxmeal instead, as a compromise.

I use TopCare's version of FiberCon when I'm away from home. Works great for me.
