Well, I didn't get put under for my colonoscopy and upper endoscopy - but as the drugs continue to wear off, I am remembering less and less about what went on. It's weird because I feel fine after the tests, but have no hand grip and slurred speech. My brother is enjoying making fun of me since I'm staying at my mom's house today.

So funny story.. well, two of them.

As some of you might remember, I have huge needle phobia. They started to put the IV in and I was already laying down because I pass out when I'm sitting up. Well, I passed out laying down - which I didn't think was possible since no blood is rushing away from your head. Guess my head must have been slightly elevated or something. The nurse didn't believe it until my eyes rolled back into my head. Freaked her out too.. made my day.

Second funny story...

During my colonoscopy, it hurt so bad that they couldn't finish it. She got far enough to take some biopsies, but didn't get all the way. I guess what tipped her off that it was hurting was my screaming and swearing. LOL At one point, the nurse told me to keep it down cuz others could hear me. Quite frankly, I didn't really care. I was drugged and couldn't quite control my temporary torrets (sp?) syndrome. LOL

The upper endoscopy was a piece of cake compared to the colonoscopy! Don't even remember much of that. Just thought I'd share my funny stories about driving the hospital staff nuts.

I like the story . It made me laugh. During mine I came out of the drugs they gave me and I could feel it, so I grabbed the drug lady and dug my nails into her arm and yelled. "Pump me up!! Pump Me up!!" over and over again tell they knocked me out. Just thought I would share mine as well.

YOWZA! I never heard such a colonoscopy story! In fact, all the stories I heard proved true for me -- a piece of cake! Guess we were lucky, eh? Sorry, Jennifer! WOW -- and they were more concerned with the others in the office hearing you than the pain they were causing you? I think I'd change GI docs if I were you!

So you don't have the results, then? When will you? Did you tell them when you left that this was not acceptable?!? Bev

Hey, I had much of the same going on............(and here it was at one of the best medical centers in SoCal) except that, unlike you, I don't freak at needles. Was awake the entire time.........yes, somewhat in la-la land but not enough and when they hit me with the "air" I screamed and said I was "out of there".......took 3 to hold me down to finish the procedure. One was built like our new Governor----Arnie...and then there was the doc and a nurse. I know I gave them a run for their money and the doc upon follow up informed me that I WOULD, by all means have a "general" next time (3-5 years from now)........See Jen....I told you to be certain about how they were going to sedate you. I know that since developing the IBS I have a low pain tolerance. I used to have an extremely high tolerance...not now. Even my dentist has to "pull out the big guns" as he calls it to get me numb enough to do the most simple of procedures. I'm still wondering why this happens to some of us (can't find any studies) since it's not just visceral pain but hyper-sensitivity to ALL pain stimuli, anywhere in the body.
Anyway.............I'm so VERY sorry you had to go thru that. Did you have nachos afterwards too?
I craved drinkable yogurt, later learning it was that I was trying to get the good flora back into my intestinal tract.
Then too, I stayed in bed for about 2 days afterwards. It had taken it's toll.

To the rest of you..........don't be scared, there are some of us that are exceptions to the rule.

Does anyone else have problems with lower (is that the right way?) pain thresholds with IBS? This has been a big issue for me. If I even knock my leg against the desk it hurts SOOO much.

LOL - Jen, you're too funny! I can just imagine what I would have felt like getting ready to go in for mine, and someone freaking out like that. Wonder how many people walked out on their procedures yesterday....

Glad you're home and well now though. I was thinking about you yesterday, wondering how you made out.

Glad that's past Jen! You are such a riot!

My memory went weird after my colonoscopy too. Didn't have a problem with pain tho - sounds like you didn't get nearly enough drugs! I was in La-la the whole time for mine - even when I woke up half-way through!

Jennifer...I wrote you a post in the Living Room....

So I'm not the only one?! I was also awake for my colonoscopy. The docs gave me more meds...didn't do anytihng. They asked me what I do to relax. I told them I sing. So they had me sing for the rest of my colonoscopy! None of us will ever forget that! LOL

I am SO SORRY you had to go through that...I wonder why most ppl go out...but we were the unlucky two? Do you remember what meds they gave you to put you out? I plan on requesting the anesteheseologist always be there from now on...so I can have the strongest drugs there are (I did this for my upper endoscopy a couple of weeks ago!)

You should be PROUD of yourself for making it...

Hope you're back to your awesome self today!

*hugs*
