I started using some olive oil, in small ammounts, in my diet and started having a real soreness in my lower gut on the left. So, I am wondering what is the difference between olive oil and other oils like: sunflower, canola, crisco...
Thanks.

Olive oil is supposed to be ok in small amounts. The other oil to use is canola. Never had a problem unless I use too much.

Heather says "Though it makes no difference to your gastrocolic reflex if you're eating lard or extra-virgin olive oil, it will make quite a difference to your heart and your health in general. Your body needs healthy fats in order to function. Keep your fat intake to 20% - 25% of your total calories, and make your fats count. They should be monounsaturated and contain essential fatty acids, so choose fat sources such as olive oil, canola oil, avocados, finely ground nuts, fatty fish, flax oil, etc. Because all fats, even heart-healthy choices, are still potential IBS triggers, please follow the Irritable Bowel Syndrome dietary guidelines detailed in How to Eat for IBS."
Personally I find saturated oils like coconut and palm oil to be more problematic than monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oils like olive, canola and sunflower oil. I only use olive oil.

I had veggies with olive oil for a few days and I've been in so much pain ever since. Now I am going into surgery and have to worry about IBS pains too. Yikes! So, no more olive oil for me!

I had carrots and onions. They don't bother me. I used about 2 tb spoons of olive oil in one large pan. This is not the first time I've noticed oil effecting me this way. I can eat Smart Balance butter substitute in spoon fulls and not get sick. Hah. Thanks.
