I have been doing a lot of experimenting lately, and recently I have discovered that food combining has made me feel a lot better. I actually feel almost 100% better. The food combining is based on the ph level in your stomach, and what ph your stomach needs to be in order to digest different foods. Basically it says that you have to eat fruit alone, and not combine starches and proteins at the same meal. You also have to wait about 3 hours in between meals to make sure the last meal is completely out of your stomach. YOu can use this information, and still eat the food Heather suggests based on the Sf and If. I would suggest googling food combining, or the hay diet, fit for life, tcm food comining, or the undiet. You really have to be disciplined when doing this, but most people who are following EFI are already disciplined. Well, I just wanted to suggest this since it has helped me so much.

Thanks for posting about this. Is there an online guide or website you used to learn about food combining?

The benefits of food combining are unsubstantiated with research. Your digestive tract is made to handle a variety of nutrients at the same time. There is no proof that food is digested better when carbohydrate and protein are presented separately. Your stomach juices are very acidic with a ph between 2 and 3. Very little that you eat will change the acidity of your stomach.
The benefits you are experience with your IBS is most likely related to eating smaller meals more frequently. As Heather says "Some other general guidelines that are helpful for IBS are equally beneficial for reflux, particularly eating small meals frequently and taking soluble fiber supplements."

I JUST SEARCHED FOR FOOD COMBINING, AND I SEARCHED FOR THE DIETS THAT I MENTIONED. YOU KIND OF HAVE TO SEARCH AROUND A LOT, BUT YOU CAN FIND A LOT OF CHARTS AND OTHER INFORMATION.

I haven't really been eating smaller meals though. I just haven't been having proteins and starches at the same meal, and only one of those sources at one meal with veggies. And I am eating fruit alone. My bloating has completely disappeared, and I feel better than I have in a long time, so I am going to keep eating this way.
