Hi everyone- I was misdiagnosed with IBS for 10 years. I had diarrhea (usually every day right after breakfast), gas, loud stomach sounds. I was reading a book about digestion last summer and I read about celiac disease. None of my doctors had ever mentioned this to me even though it turned out my symptoms were pretty typical for this disease. I asked my doctor to test me and had a positive blood test followed up by a positive endoscopy.
I just want to get this message out there, if you have diarrhea-type IBS, and you have not been tested for celiac, please do!! After being told for so long it was just something i had to live with, i found out it's NOT TRUE!! It is estimated that 1 in 133 people have Celiac and only 1 in 4,000 are diagnosed. I imagine that many of those people right now think they have IBS.
I know many people have IBS that is not Celiac, but I would just love to help someone not have to go through 10 years of unnecessary sickness like I did.

Hi geelet - I'd just like to say something about Celiac and IBS. I've been taking Slippery Elm for my IBM for 2 years now and it's a life saver. It soothes and coats the intestines and calms the inflammation, and is a mild, very mild laxative. So, it's worth looking into; most people love the results.

Thanks for the tip. There are still occasional times when I have digestive issues, possibly due to ingesting tiny amounts of gluten, which is everywhere. Anything that soothes inflammation sounds like a good thing.
