So I've had a sinus infection for a while, and I've been taking penicillin to get over that. Coincidentally, I have been feeling perfect regarding IBS. Is it possible that the penicillin is beneficial?

There are definitely a lot of other things that I could be doing right, but this is about the best I've ever felt.

Wow. I could die if I take it. I am so allergic to it!

The only explanation I can come up with is that you were suffering from some type of intestinal bacteria and the penicillin is clearing that up.

You might do a couple of Searches across all Boards with no time limit for:

SIBO
small bacteria

and read up about SIBO. The antibiotic of choice for this is not penicillin but perhaps you had some other type of infection.

HTH.
