At moment taking both Metamucil as well as a dose of lactulose for diverticulosis.

Since both of these products cause bloating I am wondering if Benefibre might be better than Metamucil? I believe Benefibre is equal to Citrucel in U.S.A.

Benefiber in Canada has a different formulation than the Benefiber in the US. In the US Benefiber is made from wheat dextrin. In Canada Benefiber use to be made from partially hydrolyzed guar gum but now the formulation has switched to inulin. Metamucil is made from psyllium husk.

If you check this web page you will see that Heather says "If you're at all prone to bloating or gas (and many folks with IBS are), please avoid both psyllium and inulin (the main ingredients in Metamucil, Konsyl, Fybogel, Fibersure, and FiberChoice), which can seriously worsen these problems in some people with IBS".

I wish the US formulation of Benefiber was available in Canada. I have problems with SFS; however, the research suggests that wheat dextrin may produce less gas and bloating than other SFS.

Good luck

Thanks, will study up. I received a sample of benefibre from a dietician and I see it contains guar gum so it may be an earlier version of Benefibre. However expiry date is okay.
