In talking in the Nature Calm thread we started to discuss what everyone is eating. It was actually started by Lisa Marie being kind of enough to have me list my non diet so she could help make suggestions. I'm going to list my daily foods and any input would be welcome. I especially have a heard time with lunch and snacks.

Meantime, those that are advanced in all of Heather's wonderful diet that does work we can see what you eat all day. Here's mine, but remember I am not on Heather's diet yet. I'm just starting with her fiber and I just started the NC and will order Gas Stop.

Here you go. Anyone feel free to post your meals:

BREAKFAST

Brown rice warm cereal (or millet or kamut warm cereal)
Patch of margarine
½ of banana
4 tsp of apple sauce unsweetened

4 cups of hot water or decaf green tea

OR

One egg on kamut ½ bagel or slice of spelt or kamut bread dab of
margarine

LUNCH

On the go a lot

Quarter size turkey patty (2)

Or
Slice of turkey and ½ of kamut or spelt bread

DINNER

Chicken with either brown rice pasta or brown rice or baked potato

Ground turkey with brown rice or pasta or baked potato

Or baked Salmon

Steamed asparagus and carrots every evening meal

SNACK AT NIGHT

Frozen banana
Apple sauce cup with 2 tbs of plain yogurt

I wish I could help you out but like I said, mine is worse! I don't know if this is good rice or not, but I haven't had any trouble with Zataran's Yellow rice and the dirty rice. Its really good with 0 fat as long as you dont use the oil/margarine which isnt needed anyways! Better than bland ol' rice!

Have you started taking the fiber yet? I started at 1/2 tsp. 2x a day for 5 days and now im going up a 1/2 tsp every week so im at 1 tsp a day now. I feel...well I havent been feeling well lately but I don't think its the fiber. I actually don't think the fiber is doing much of anything but I know I have to wait.

I did have a BM this morning though! Not normal but better than lately! I did start taking probiotics yesterday though and I bought some flax seed and put it on my rice and sprinkled it on top of my cake. It tastes pretty good or actually pretty tasteless. I did have some cramps/just plain icky feelings when I woke up though I dont know if it was the fat in the flax seed or the probiotics. Hmm

Be careful with the flaxseed cause that can be harsh on us. Someone on here said to buy the flaxseed meal, but I haven't tried it yet. You eat cake? What kind? Sorry LOL I'm just so curious what all we can eat or tolerate. I'm sorry you aren't feeling that great. I'm not either. I think that Nature Calm sort of is a love/hate thing with me. It does seem to help ease the gas and bloat, but then I think it flares me too. I'm just not a happy camper right now.

What Probotics did you try? I'm on Jerro for years but when I tried a new one I got constipated. It's a balancing act. I also thoguht I read that the fiber can cause gas for a while until our tummy gets used to it? Feel better!

How do you use the fiber? Do you put it in water or on food? I'm chicken, but I will be trying it after Tues. when I have no big obligations I have to be at. When I flare I just can't function that well so Tues night it is. Do I put it on my food or in apple sauce?

Well I think I read that when its grund up its way better and the kind I got is almost powder. It looks like finely chopped nuts or something. I did have some cramps this morning but like I said I also had a BM so its like...i wont have a stomach ache in the morning but I cant have a BM or I can have a BM but i have awful cramps!!! Ugh which one do I prefer? haha Will by stomach get used to the flax seed or is it something you think I should lay off of?

Also I have major gas today! Is that from the probiotics you think? I think someone on here mentioned that before. I bought Flora-Q after buying Florastor first without realizing it had lactose ugh.

The "cake" I was referring to is actually the pumpkin apple spice bread in the IBS cookbook. It is AMAZING! I put a little pillsburry fuffy white frosting on it (its vegan and has the least fat at 10% per serving but I only use half of that) and some of those color sugar sprinkles and it tastes just like yummy cake! Don't overdo it on the frosting though like I wanted to haha and it tastes great without it too, so maybe just leave it out altogether.

I never put my fiber in food before. I drink it in a huge glass of water with breakfast and dinner. It really ups my water intake for the day too thats why I prefer to do it that way. Don't freak yourself out too much about it though because then any kind of reaction you have you might automaticlly freak yourself out some more and blame the fiber you know? Or at least thats how I am!

I think that the gas from fiber is just because its a shock to your gut kinda so if you're really worried, start at 1/4 tsp 2x a day instead of 1/2 2x. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon too!

Lainey, I have been following your posts, and I don't think you said why you are not using Miralax. It's an "osmotic" laxative, newly available over the counter, that doesn't act all at once like magnesia laxatives do. Probably, until you are taking a good amount of Acacia Tummy Fiber, the Miralax would help you feel more comfortable, but then you would plan to wean yourself off it.

I've been on NSI 15-34 for awhile, and now I'm on Align, which caused some reaction for a week or so, after the change over.

I take a teacup, put in my dose of Tummy Fiber (or FiberSure), and add fairly warm water, stir it, stop stirring and let it think about dissolving, let it dissolve, stir it again, and drink. That saves always having to have the same food on hand for the sake of the Soluble Fiber Supplement. Oh, and something I remember from one of your posts. The SFS (Acacia Tummy Fiber or FiberSure) is sort of like Miralax; that is, "osmotic." By that I mean, even if the definition doesn't, that the way it acts is integrated with your body, so that the fiber does NOT form a "brick" or clump that then you have to manage to get rid of.

Instead, it forms a gel in your large intestine--the Soluble Fiber Supplement does--mixing itself with water and with the content of the large bowel that has arrived there after being digested in the stomach and small intestine. The gel is a gentle substance that is comparatively easy to squeeze out, and all of a piece.

Looking up "osmotic" and guessing that how it applies to Miralax and to Soluble Fiber Supplements is that they arrive in your large intestine as a liquid which can permeate the contents of your large intestine and moisten and soften it.

All the best,

Are you trying to do the IBS diet? Hopefully you know that dairy (even fat free lactose free milk) is a BIG no-no.

Also, most IBSers cannot handle salads; to much IF, with no SF cushion. Wheat bread is usually problematic, too. Doesn't this diet aggravate your IBS???

This is just me, but I would much rather use a magnesium supplement than a prescription drug. My whole goal with switching to the IBS diet was to eliminate my dependence on medication to control my symptoms. So, I guess I'd rather consume a natural substance (like magnesium) than a chemical! But that's just me...

Ugh and went and bought the Lactose free milk today to put in smoothies cause it sounded so good. Lucky I have rice milk here I guess I'll use instead.

I was never able to handle salads, but I did, like I said in another post, buy the butter lettuce today and thought I'd try putting chicken and some egg whites in and maybe some fruit. I don't want to over load my tummy with new things so I'm going really slow. I did like the listing of the diet though because although we are all different, I seem to find something from the list I hadn't thought of that I can tolerate. It's interesting to see everyone's diet. I think I might try some cold cereal, natural oats and use the rice milk with some fruit as a snack, see how I do with that once the Gas Stop comes.

First of all, thanks so much for taking the time to follow my posts. Miralax was never mentioned to me by any doctors and I always wondered why. They spoke more about adding fiber and more food to my diet. I really hate to get on that merry go round of laxatives. I was using Milk of Mag and Fleet's and really 3 days after using them my issues came back again. I want to try to do this with food if I can. So far the NC seems to flare me, but also helps with the bloat and gas the first day, so I have a love/ hate thing going with it. I'm not ready to give up on it yet and it gives me energy the next day. I just have to figure out the right amount for me. If all else fails I'll think about the Miralax so thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the name of the Probotics. I'm on Jerro, when I switched to others I got more constipated so not sure what to do so am sticking with Jerro for now. I'll be trying the fiber this week. Thank again!

Yahoo someone posted their diet. Thanks so much! I printed it out and got some ideas from it. Clever to use tea as part of your smoothie!

there's not much to it; i wouldn't really call it a recipe, even! just mince up a few garlic cloves and saute them in a little olive oil. then add a 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes. that's it! you can spice it up however you want. add some crushed red pepper flakes or chili sauce for a little heat, throw in some chopped fresh herbs, maybe mushrooms for SF. My favorite combo (inspired by a local family-owned Italian restaurant) is taking the basic sauce and adding sliced pepperoncinis, sliced mushrooms, fresh herbs (parsley, oregano, and basil), and some chopped kalamata olives. yum!!

Thanks so much for posting. I really do think I will as well have my main meal for lunch, go lighter for dinner. You gave me some great suggestions. Thanks. We sort of eat a like. I was thinking of having my warm cereal for dinner. Sounds so good on the tummy instead of a heavy meal.

I almost always do oatmeal and tea at night, especially when I need to go to bed early, it is super soothing, and makes me feel tucked in and sleepy.

Mmmm. Oatmeal isn't for everyone, I know, but just the thought of eating oatmeal in the next ten minutes is soothing to my tummy. Warning, though. I'm talking about plain, plain instant oatmeal, nothing added, no cinnamon, no sugar, no flavoring, nada. You could do plain cooked oatmal, too. It's easier to find than absolutely plain instant oatmeal.
