Can someone please help me with a question? I was diagnosed with IBS however after reading the 'normal sypmtoms and problems' with IBS, I do not believe that this is what I do have. My pain started 1 1/2 years ago in the middle of the night - terrible sharp, shooting pain like a knife in my right rib cage and radiating from my front around to the back. After a series of tests, nothing seriously wrong was found. The horrible screaming pain has since gone but I am left now with stomach cramps when I eat ANYTHING and a dull ache in my right rib cage (higher, not lower). It does not seem to make much difference what I eat although some meals are much worse then others. I guess my question is, can these sypmtoms be of IBS and if so, is mine just a very very mild case (as discomfort when a person eats seems trivial to what some people seem to be suffering). I have lost most of my interest in food and meal times are more of a nightmare then anything - and I worry about nutrients . . . but none of this seems consistent with what I've read about IBS. Any comments or questions would be greatly appreciated at this point . . . thanks for any help/comments I receive\

Did your tests include tests such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, gall bladder sonograms, etc?

Yes, I had ultrasound, endoscopy and colonscopy - when they could not find anything significant, they diagnosed IBS

Did you have your gall bladder checked out? Severe pain high on the right side sounds like your gall bladder. I had the same symptoms, middle of the night, just under my bottom rib on the right side. I didn't have any stones, but the surgeon ordered a HIDA scan, which showed that my gall bladder wasn't emptying as it should, so I had it removed. It may be worth your while to have it looked at, if you haven't already.
