However I'm having troubles with soluble fiber in white breads, cereals, etc. For example my Rice Chex lists 0g of fiber but according to the EFI diet it should contain lots of SF. The defintion of total dietary fiber changed a few years. I gave an explanation of the changes on this web page and web page . Total dietary fiber is now defined as dietary fiber (SF and IF) and functional fiber. Functional fibers are things like resistant starches that act like SF. Unfortunately databases such as the USDA Food database and the Finelli database give the values for dietary fiber but not for functional fiber. Similarly, many foods do not give the values either. There is a little bit of information about resistant starch - a common functional fiber - in this document and table. It sure would be helpful for all of us if there was a reliable fource of information about total dietary fiber and its breakdown into SF, IF and functional fiber for those of us with IBS.
