IS BUTTER, OR ANY KIND OF SPREAD SAFE TO USE, ON THINGS LIKE TOAST, BAGELS, ETC...

I use it. Just make sure you find one that doesn't have dairy in it and keep the fat content low

I would stay away from butter and any spread containing hydrogenated oils or trans fats. I would look for spreads with a low fat content.

I use Smart Balance Light. It is low in fat and also non-dairy.

I use the same brand too. Also, the recipes in the cookbook aren't too shabby. Though I had D today (probably 'cause I ate too too much food yesterday), the recipes are surprisingly good.
