My doc has me taking 2 stool softners a day. One in the morning and one at night. On the package it said don't take more then a week but when I asked my doc he said I would and could stay on it longer. I hate the idea of laxatives but have been taking the stool softner. Is there any long term problems. So far and just been a few days it has helped but not with the bloating/gas or uncomfortable cramp feeling.

What kind are you taking? I take Miralax which is supposed to be the most mild and you can take it daily. You have to be careful with regular laxatives though. They can cause a build up of pigment in your colon which can cause pain as well. I never used to use them but have the pigment anyhow. The miralax keeps things moving and doesn't cause any pain. It does cause bloating in some people. I was told you can spilt the dose throughout the day to help.

Miralax has been an absolute saving grace for me! I had been taking Milk of Mag. every night for approx 10years...YIKES!! But for the past 2 wks. I have taken Miralax and my acacia and have increased my fresh fruit consumption and other food items. I have felt pretty good. I am still a bit bloated and gassy but think its from the probiotic I have JUST started to take this past week. I feel the best I have felt in a long time! But my doctor also had told me to take a stool softener and that it wouldn't hurt me unlike laxatives. Keep up the good work and keep plugging away on your successes.

My doc put me on colace it is over the counter 100mg 2 times a day. I may try only 1 time after I get more consistent. If I do that after awhile is it better at night or day? I sometimes feel nausea but not sure if it is from the colace is sometimes I'm nausea in general.I just don't want other problems and regardless of how long I used to not go I never wanted laxatives. This seems different. I'm glad you found things that work it makes a huge difference.
