hi
i started Acacia Monday morning. 1/2 teaspoon twice a day. Things were going VERY well(i thought i was cured) up until righ now, Friday Afternoon. All week i had not gotten any cramps or D, if anything i was a little C, but i have always been IBS-D only.
Today, for whatever reason, i got cramps and violent D....i am sure it was not food.

What should i do, increase or decrease the Acacia?

thanks for any help

Have you been eating any triggers? Extra fats?

Maybe you should start your acacia at a lower dose. I know the can says 1/2 tsp 2 X day, but that might be too high. Try 1/4 teaspoon 2 x day. Drink plenty of water too.

if you start at too high a dose, is explosive D one of the signs that the dose is too high?

Hey sorry to hear youre in a bad way. I know how frustrating it is when you think some food is working and then it turns out that it gives you cramps. Something happened to me recently that makes me rethink all this IBS diet business. Ive been doing exams for the last 3 weeks or so. During the year my stomach is relatively ok, and the only reason it wouldnt be is down to bad eating habits(eating too much in one sitting or eating too fast)so any irrritable bowl trouble is down to the choices i make, not somehting that just happens. Ive gone to see the college consellor over the year a few times as this year has been very stressful for me(went back to college as a mature student)but during my exams i didnt go see this person. Ive finished my exams 2 wks ago now and during the exams and for those two wks after my stomach was in a heap. Seriously, anything i put in there would give me cramps. Im studying sports science and health in college and i know whats good food and whats bad so its not like i was pouring crap into my system. I couldnt figure out what was triggering my cramps. I read a lot about IBS and I even ordered some books off the internet. So my focus was on diet. But a few days ago i went to see the college counsellor and we had a talk. Before I went into his office my stomach was in a jock but after we talked it was fine.......and its been fine since.
The point im tryin to make is this: This irritable bowl thing is not just about diet its about stress and stress management. Or at least its what ive found to be true. I think maybe if you went and talked to someone you'd feel better instantly, instead of worrying about food combinations and medications and that sort of thing. But id defo look into relaxation techniques and also having someone to talk to, maybe a qualified psychotherapist.
Hope thats some help to you.

For some people that might be a sign. For others it might be a lot of bloating and cramping.

It is well known (at least on this site) that stress can play a major roll in IBS and Heather addresses that in her books, and the ibs hypnotherapy (available here too) has helped many people feel better. However a combination of proper diet and hypno should help you feel better faster.
