I've been doing a lot of reading about the Elimination Diet (also called the Cave Man Diet or the Rare foods diet) that is supposed to detect and relieve hidden food allergies and reduce stress on the immune system. Has anyone ever tried it? I was tested for food allergies by a doc a while back, but as I understand it new allergies pop up if you consume a lot of the same foods. It is pretty strict and it takes a while. I have been thinking about trying it. Any advice??

I haven't tried it, but have your seriously tried doing Heather's EFI diet? You start off by doing the BTC diet, then gradually add things back in. That way you know what foods you have trouble with.

Yes, I have been doing that for a while, but I feel I might have sensitivities to "safe" foods, because my tummy almost always hurts. What does EFI mean? I looked it up, but couldn't find the definition. My daily eating is really pretty much all BTC foods. I don't add too many IF items.

EFI = Eating for IBS

BTC should only be for 2-3 days, then you HAVE to add things back. Eating pretty much all SF foods might be causing you your problems.
However, if you feel that you want to try the other elimination diet, go ahead and try and let us know how it works out for you.

To do a test of what you are intolerant to it works best to just eliminate one or two items at a time. Go off for at least 2 weeks and then reintroduce the item in a large amount. Do each thing more than once to be sure. This is what my doctor recommended.
It just doesn't work to do too many at once. I did one in December with several things and felt great and then got sick from restaurant hash browns and all the research was lost! I wasn't sure which thing it was didn't agree with me since I couldn't reintroduce anything. But if it had been one thing I would have a better idea.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

SF bulks up your stool, it doesn't necessarily push it out. You need IF for that. If you're on the C side, it might cause you more C, pain, gas, and bloating.
