I just tried soy milk for the first time - I was scared but it wasn't too bad. I think it was 8th Continent light vanilla. I had it in cereal which somewhat drowned out the taste, but i thought the consistency was like water with some vanilla extract added to it. Maybe the non-light version would be better, but I'm not sure I want that much fat. I've had lactaid milk before - is that acceptable? Milk hasn't generally bothered me, but I'm trying to cut out everything that isn't on the list.

Welcome to the boards. lactaid milk is not acceptable because it is still dairy. Of the soy milks I've tried, I like Silk Soy the best, but I prefer Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Milk, and Rice Dream milk.

I liked Silk the best too. I drank the Chocolate and used the Plain in my cereal. I found it to be really creamy, not watery so you might want to try it. Now I'm drinking Almond Breeze milk and really liking that. It's even more creamy.

I don't tolerate soy well, so I have been drinking rice milk. Rice dream has a creamier texture, but I can't drink it straight yet. However, I've just discovered Almond Breeze, which is much better, much creamier - especially the chocolate!

I like Silk, but the kind in the refrigerated area, not the aseptic boxes. My current fave is Organic Valley, which is also in the refrigerated section.

Are they different formulations? I was confused about that. I bought some almond breeze milk today but I think I got the box kind. I'm waiting for it to get cold because I don't really like the idea of eating room-temperature cereal.

I am a big fan of Natura brand Light(low-fat) Vanilla. I cook my oatmeal in roughly 4 parts water to 1 part soymilk.

Be careful with 8th Continent Light...I think it has artificial sweeteners (Splenda, I think). I love Silk Light! MeiMei

I believe it's just different processing between the stuff that needs to stay refrigerated versus the shelf-stable packs. I notice more of a "beany" taste for Silk aseptic packs versus their refrigerated stuff. It's not a huge thing, and I think it's mainly an issue for the soy milks versus almond, rice, or oat milks.
