Does Acacia fiber really work well for IBS-D?

I currently take Fibersure and noticed a difference at first and now it doesn't seem to be working like it did at first. I only take 1 teaspoon a day. Would Acacia be better? And why?

I take acacia. I've never taken anything else and I don't plan to because acacia works so well for me. I recommend it if you've never tried it.

I advise you to be careful though. I tried acacia (both lowering and upping my dosage) and it never helped me. I was incredibly gassy and my stool was so hard I almost retore my anus (GROSS). If you don't take a fiber supplement now, be careful with your dosage and don't be afraid to not take if if you're feeling worse. BUT - some people on this post swear by it and it has really helped them. It's another thing you'll have to make your own mind up about. Good luck!

I'm sorry you had trouble with acacia. Some people have allergies to it and for others, it just doesn't seem to do the trick. For myself, it works wonderfully.

For those who are going to try it, start with a low dose and work your way up to what works for you.

I just started the Acacia fiber last week. I am IBS-D and haven't had a normal bowel mvmt since I was in the hospital at the end of Feb. I was taking benefiber, but it wasn't working. I took 1/4 tsp of the acacia and had a normal BM that day! I haven't upped my dosage, because with that fast of a reaction, I'm afraid of becoming constipated, and don't want to exchange one problem for another.

So it worked for me so far, but I haven't been on it for that long.

The only SFS I've ever used for my IBS-D is acacia and it works very well for me. I'm taking 1 Tbsp. 3 times a day.

It's best if you start out with 1/4 teaspoon two times a day and increase it by 1/4 teaspoon after about 1 week. Good luck!

I started my Acacia fiber yesterday. Took 1/4 teaspoon in yogurt yesterday morning....and 1/4 teaspoon in pudding yesterday evening. This morning I had gas and 4 loose stools before leaving the house for work. I took one Lomotil and that worked. Is it the Acacia fiber that caused this? Or something I ate yesterday?

The dairy isn't recommended...although that is a debated topic. The acacia could also be causing your symptoms.

No, I don't take Acacia. I tried it for almost 6 months...and my body just didn't "like" it. I tried but came to realize it wouldn't help me.

This was my advice to you in this thread a few days ago. , http://www.helpforibs.com/messageboards/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=diet&Number=307235&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&vc=1[/url] and the yogurt is dairy which is a no no for IBS.

I also responded to you in a little more detail in your other thread from today.

sorry..... I misread your post and then when I got my order the can says to start with 1/2 tsp. So that's why I increased it. I'm just in such a state of confusion right now and frustration. I'm so tired of trying things that are supposed to work and I guess I'm rushing the results, too, because we are going on a road trip the beginning of July and I'm nervous that I won't feel well.

Did you ever find an SFS that helped you without the nasty side effects?

If not, what do you use/do to replace it? I'm so disappointed Acacia doesn't seem to be agreeing with me.
